Summary:

To comfort: to create a state of ease and peace.

Description:

To isolate: to insulate or set oneself aparts

These twin themes arise in a counterintuitive and organic way. In the City of Dreams collection, Jason’s focused shots of Manhattan’s Flatiron Building and Empire State Building, tell the story of comfortable isolation in the most frenzied city on earth.

The stolid Flatiron Building hovers overhead, splitting the splendor of NY architecture from the cacophony of its streets; driving a wedge between the ceaseless busyness and the peace of being.

The Empire State Building towers above the city with quiet aplomb, self-assurance, and majestic unreachability. An obelisk of oneness within a sea of individuals reminding us that there is neither an end to our obstacles nor an end to the strength we have to overcome them: a NY State of Mind.

Jason Matias is a veteran, a TEDx Speaker, contemporary photographer who lives and works in the Greater Seattle area. A New York native, he photographs in multiple disciplines and at locations spanning the globe.
